From our April 2006 Seminar:
We are excited to announce that our first ever East West baby was born at the Quaker Center during our 2006 seminar. Proud parents, Paige and Ryan, attended the Foundation track and welcomed their son, Satya Redman on May 3rd. Click here to see pictures.
Many thanks to our graduates, who at the seminar were generous with advice and guidance for all the other participants. We are very fortunate to have these graduates participate at our seminar. It is an honor to share the healing journey with these very accomplished herbalists.

The East West Seminars are completely and absolutely AMAZING. Each year I have attended, it only gets better. I have formed life-long friendships with fellow students each year. Many of us are now reflecting on our wonderful transformations after calling each other "colleagues". I assure you, you will never meet a more extraordinary group than those guided to the seminars each year. The class work itself is intense, and takes months to completely absorb. Then there is the food, amazing. The atmosphere fosters healing, nurturing, learning, and friendships as the giant redwoods open up to share and guide your experiences.
Nicholas Schnell "Spirit Bear"
The Nebraska Herbalist who will also be teaching at our seminar!
I especially looked forward each year to the week-long seminar held deep in the Redwood forest. It was a magical and restful time for me, even though it was challenging for my mind. The comraderie between the herbalists, the patience and sensitivity of the teachers, great food and serene surroundings are all blessings I still hold dear and will never forget.
Jill Ruttenberg, herbalist and mentor
Dear Students and Friends,
In 2008 we offer three simultaneous seminars: a weekend Practitioner Seminar for our graduates and Acupuncture practitioners, a week-long Spring Herbal Seminar and our East West weekend Body Therapy Seminar.
The seminars are held at the Quaker Center in Ben Lomond, California in the glorious Santa Cruz mountains. The Herbal Seminar: Mornings begin with Qi Gong taught alternately by three experienced teachers, then breakfast. Our first class session runs from 9:30-12:30. This is followed by a two hour lunch period, giving you time to digest, connect with other students and hike the beautiful grounds. The afternoon session runs from 2:30-5:30. Dinner is at 6, then our evening sessions convene around 7:30, lasting until 9:30-10. As you can see, our days and nights are packed so you gain the most out of your time here with us.
Our featured guest teachers are Amanda McQuade Crawford, Roy Upton and Bill Schoenbart. We welcome back many of our distinguished faculty including Candis Cantin, Raqib Katz, Nicholas Schnell, Susan Kramer, Miles Coleman, Jen Zappin, Benjamin Zappin, Dov Shoneman, Darren Huckle, Debra Mayoff and of course, Michael and Lesley. Our fabulous chef, Ben Zappin, acupuncturist and herbalist, artfully combines herbs with his healing wisdom to provide the best healthful and delicious vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals you have ever had at a seminar.
Michael Tierra will present in-depth teachings on Complementary approaches to treating cancer and Assessment Methodology.
Add the beautiful redwood setting of our rustic retreat center and the week's end traditional herbal party - YOUR Talent Show - and you can look forward to a learning and nourishing experience on all levels. Come for another eventful week of learning, one that you do not want to miss.
Green Blessings, Michael and Lesley Tierra
